The difference between The Shift Café and other "self-help" books is that this book doesn't tell you what you should do, it (gently) asks you the right questions so that you can figure out the answers on your own. It then prompts you to create small "shifts" in your life to put you on the path you want to be on. I also love the conversational style of the book. It really does feel like you're out at a café drinking coffee and having a meaningful discussion with a close friend.

Another thing that really sets The Shift Café book apart from others is that it offers so many different modalities to get you in touch with your inner self. There are writing prompts/questions, pictures to color in, nature activities, etc. Whatever road to your inner self fits you best, you can take it with this book. Honestly, I usually don't like introspective books like this, but this one leads you so gently as it gets you to think about your life that even I loved it! Highly recommended!

It’s tough to make lasting, sustainable changes in our lives. Over the course of the 14 chapters (or “Sips” as they’re called in The Shift Café) you’ll identify the shift you want to work toward over the next few months, aka your vital vision. Then you go through a series of exercises that help you determine your values, any self-sabotaging behaviors, how to maintain boundaries, etc. all with the intent of helping you achieve your vision. I’ve now applied these tools to both my personal life and my career in ways that have made considerable improvements. I’ve read many self-help books, but none have changed how I view the world quite like this one. And I can honestly say that I’m much happier having gone through the exercises and having made a few important (and lasting!) changes to my life.
